Utah’s oldest and most-visited national park, Zion is a spectacle of breathtaking scenery and ecological diversity. In its most popular area, Zion Canyon, humongous stone monoliths tower nearly 3,000 feet above the Virgin River, the main erosive force that carved the amazing cliff-and-canyon landscape. Zion boasts everything from hanging gardens to harsh desert environments spanning elevations ranging from approximately 3,500 to 9,000 feet. Its numerous hiking trails cater to every age and ability level, from the 16-mile length of the Zion Narrows to the ½-mile round trip to Weeping Rock. Taking a Zion National Park vacation will please the whole family!
If you would like to visit Zion National Park without the crowds, drive up Interstate 15 34 miles from our hotel to the Kolob Canyons section of the park. Kolob Canyons, located in Zion’s northwestern corner, features a visitor center, a five-mile scenic drive and three trails, one of which leads hikers to Kolob Arch, one of the longest-spanning arches on earth at 310 feet. Kolob Canyons’ collection of sandstone monoliths is nearly as awe-inspiring as those of Zion Canyon, located more than an hour southeast. The section’s most popular trail is the Middle Fork of Taylor Creek, which parallels a stream past two historic cabins until it reaches a double arch alcove with colorful streaks in its sandstone and a lush hanging garden. Kolob Canyons provides a view most visitors do not see on their Zion National Park vacation.
